Cats are born with cute appearance, but sometimes the owner or others will show a little disgust when touching them, especially when touching their cute ears, they sometimes scream and struggle in pain. The possible reason is whether the cat's ears are injured or inflamed.
If a cat has acute otitis externa or otitis media, it will cause severe pain in the ears, so it will not let you touch it. In addition, if the ear hematoma is used, you can feel elasticity when you touch its ears.
1. Otitis externa and otitis media
This disease is caused by parasites such as bacteria, fungi or ear ticks. Injuries caused by water in the ear or random ear cleaning may also cause this disease. In the early stage of the diseased cat's ear itchy, the cat will keep shaking its head and scratching its ears. Soon, slightly black earwax will appear and there will be a odor. The tympanic membrane ruptures, blisters and pustules appear, and they develop into otitis media in one step. At this time, the ears no longer itch, but will hurt violently, so the cat hates touching its ears.
If you have acute otitis externa or otitis media, you will feel severe pain in your ears, so you will scream in pain when you touch it. In addition, it may also be accompanied by fever symptoms, fatigue, weakness, and mental depression, and squat quietly. In this case, take the cat to the hospital immediately to find the cause and carry out treatment.
The ear canal medication can be used in treatment. For parasitic otitis externa, after cleaning the ear canal, apply 1-2% dibasin aqueous solution to the affected area and treat it again 4 days apart. For bacterial otitis exterinary rinses, apply chloramphenicol ointment and hydrocortisone ointment 1-2 times a day for 1 week. For fungal otitis externa, after thoroughly cleaning the ear canal, use Wuji cream and ceromycin ointment until the scales in the ear disappear.
2. Auricular hematoma
The so-called auricular hematoma is a disease in which the blood vessels between the skin of the ear and the cartilage below it rupture and bleeding, causing swelling of the auricular (visible part outside). Since blood gathers in the ears, you will know it as soon as you touch it. It is said that if you ignore it, your ears will deform and become elliptical, so it is better to perform surgery as early as possible and control the deformation to a minimum.
There are many causes of hematoma in the ear. It is mostly caused by frequent otitis shaking the head and scratching the ear or biting, causing subcutaneous bleeding of the ear shell, causing ear hematoma of cats and dogs. The ear hematoma forms rapidly, and the early swelling of the ears will feel warm and fluctuating, which will cause pain in compression. It will become hard after a few days, and there will be a volatility in the center. The puncture will discharge blood. If the hematoma occurs at the base of the ear, the swelling will make the ear canal narrow, even blocked, and hearing failure. Hematoma is prone to secondary infection, and after infection, it becomes an abscess. There is only surgery for routine treatment of ear hematoma.
In addition, cats' ears have flat epithelial cancers, which can also cause cats to resist when they are touched. If a cat has flat epithelial cancer of the ear, the affected area will turn red and symptoms of dandruff bleeding appear. The cat's ears are raised up, and a swollen lesion appears at the front of the ear. This disease requires surgical treatment, so once there is an abnormality in the ear, you will take it to the hospital immediately.
