After recovering from a cardiac arrest in December 2023, former Luton captain Lockyer officially returned to Bristol Rovers as a free agent and signed a nine-month contract with the club. Recently, Lockyer spoke about this matter in an interview.

Q: How does it feel to be back at Bristol Rovers?

Lockyer: It feels really, really good to be part of Bristol Rovers again. Obviously, I've been training here for a while and I try not to think too much or get too excited about the ifs and buts and what could happen. But once I knew there were things Darrell wanted to accomplish, it was an easy decision for me to make the decision to go home.

Q: What does this return mean to you personally?

Lockyer: It's hard to explain, but it represents everything I've worked so hard for the past two years. Hopefully I can leave many, many more wonderful memories on my football jersey. I'm going to celebrate every little victory I get back on the football field and I just want to enjoy it. Otherwise I wouldn't have done it. I do it because I love playing football and I have a huge desire to play football again and what better place to do that than back home at Bristol Rovers?
