Alfie Whiteman was never a typical footballer during his time at Tottenham. As Tottenham's third, fourth and later fifth goalkeeper, his chances of playing on the pitch for his boyhood club were slim. So in his spare time, he devoted his energy to different interests: taking acting classes, improving his photography skills, and hosting a monthly radio show that played folk, indie rock, and dream pop. Theathletic reveals Whiteman’s recent life.

When Whiteman's teammates drove into the training ground in luxury cars, he chose to take public transportation. Whiteman left Tottenham as a free agent this summer and originally planned to continue his career, perhaps proving himself in England's lower leagues or overseas. However, despite receiving concrete interest from Championship sides, the 26-year-old decided to retire and start a new career within months of winning the Europa League.

Whiteman is now an emerging photographer and film director signed to global production company Somesuch. The company, which has offices in London and Los Angeles, has produced Harris Dickinson's directorial debut Urchin and Anil Khali's The Long Goodbye, which won Best Live Action Short at the 2022 Academy Awards.
