Tottenham full-back and Spanish international Polo talked about his hopes of being selected for the Spanish squad for the 2026 World Cup, his competition with Carvajal and his personal attention to detail in a radio interview.

Q: What do you think of the prospect of being selected for the Spanish squad for the 2026 World Cup? Competition seems to be fierce.

Polo: There are many very good players in Spain. I wasn't selected for the European Cup, when Carvajal and Jesus Navas were the final picks. The only thing you can do is work hard and maximize your opportunities.

Q: Is it confusing that you seem to be in and out of the national team roster from time to time?

Pedro Polo: De La Fuente knows I will always be there waiting to be called up. It's not easy to get in and out of the roster because one moment you feel like you're on top, the next time you're not selected.

Q: What do you think of the competition with Carvajal?

Polo: Carvajal has always been a role model for me to learn from. Recent situations have solidified me, and when you have consistency in your performances, confidence comes through.

Q: How will you continue to improve yourself?

Polo: There is always room for improvement: if I have given 100% and the results are good, then next time I have to give 200%. Football demands that of you and that's why I continue to be in good form.

Q: You attach great importance to personal care and physical condition. Do you seem to be influenced by Marcos Llorente?

Polo: In the world of football, the most important thing is to avoid any injuries. Nowadays you have to pay strict attention to every smallest detail. I have my own gadgets but I don't show them publicly... Marcos Llorente loves those and I give him a hug.

Yes, these are the same glasses that Marcos Llorente uses.

I talked with Marcos when we were in the national team. I don’t have a lot of time because of kids and stuff, so it’s kind of on the back burner, but I try to follow Marcos Llorente’s philosophy when I have time because I also like to pay attention to the smallest details.
