TA wrote that although Manchester United has made cost cuts in many aspects under the leadership of new boss Ratcliffe, this has not affected the team's huge investment in the transfer market.

Since Ratcliff took office, the club's total transfer expenditure has reached £510.8 million and net expenditure has also reached £365.3 million, which has increased the cost of building the team's lineup to £1.2 billion.

This huge expenditure directly led to a surge in transfer debt. Currently, Manchester United's net transfer debt is as high as £344.5 million, which is likely to be the highest level in world football. Of these, £182.8 million needs to be paid before the end of June 2026, which has brought huge short-term cash flow pressure to the club.

In sharp contrast to the huge signing investment, Manchester United has been underperforming in selling players.

Over the past decade, the club has made only £174.2 million by selling players, ranking only 18th in England, far behind Manchester City (400 million pounds less) and Chelsea (650 million pounds less).

Although player sales have improved this season, generating 75.7 million in revenue (of which 44 million are profits), Manchester United still has a clear gap compared to eight Premier League clubs this summer's sales exceeding 100 million.
